In September of 1986, the Stratoblasters performed their very first set at Redux in Dallas, Texas. It should be mentioned that as the namesake goes, this was not absolutely correct. Bugs Henderson had actually coined the moniker by naming his band Bugs Henderson and the Stratoblasters some time previously. After guitarists Jimmy Wallace and Mike (Junior Clark) left, he renamed the group Bugs Henderson and The Shuffle Kings, the very name they are internationally known by today. Bugs, very graciously, consented to allow Jimmy and company to retain the Stratoblasters name as they would be carrying on the tradition of the three guitar entity.

Billy Harvey – Post-Modern Pop

Songs on this show: Be Kind Rewind and Empiness is Everything, both off his brand new release, Elephants In The Room

Over the years Billy Harvey has been playing his own brand of Post Modern Pop, working not only as an artist but also as a producer (Charlie Mars, Bob Schneider, Slaid Cleaves, and Steve Poltz are among his credits).
A prolific writer, he has been the recipient of the International Songwriters Award for Best Rock Song “Frozen Through”, and broke into the Top 100 on the CMJ Charts with his 2007 release “Bearsick”. His latest release “The Everlasting War” teems with raw emotion and heartfelt sentiment so succinct it is impossible not to be affected by it. Its Standout tracks include “The Greatest Escape”, “Heading for the Hills” (featured in ABC’s Private Practice), and “Let This Be The Day”. The caffeine-addled do-it-yourselfer that he is, he has also been quietly directing, animating, and editing the accompanying music videos to his records culminating in his 2008 documentary film “Everywhere Now”. Filmed entirely on his laptop camera, Harvey intimately chronicled a 7000-mile plus tour in a car powered by waste vegetable oil. Given the diversity of his interests, it is not much of a surprise to learn that he is pursuing acting as yet another form of expression. 2011 marked the festival release of “Strings” in which Harvey gained a leading role. Over the course of that festival season “Strings” won multiple awards including ‘Best Ensemble Cast’ ‘Best Song (for Harvey’s own song “The Greatest Escape”)’ ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Cinematography’. His second Role in a feature film follows his character ‘Simon’ on a fantastical journey of self-discovery and comes by way of the Indy film “The Taiwan Oyster”. Shot on location across the island of Taiwan, “The Taiwan Oyster” is a beautifully poignant and darkly humorous road story .
Billy’s website has won various media and internet awards including the Interactive Design Award at South By Southwest and the Flash Forward award in NYC. Please visit it here…www.billyharvey.com

Billy plays the Big Sandy Music Hall fresh from his appearance at SXSW promoting the release of his 8th album, Elephants In The Room. Join us March 18th at 7:30PM for a great time with Billy Harvey. Tickets are $10 – click here to purchase.

Connie Mims began her musical career in the ‘70’s in Texas, appearing everywhere from the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin to The Troubadour in Los Angeles.  She served on the Board of Governors for the Texas Chapter of The Recording Academy as Education Chair (2005-2009), producing the annual GRAMMY Career Day for high school students. She is the co-writer of “Gunpowder and Lead” and “Me and Charlie Talkin’”, both recorded by Miranda Lambert; Sunny Sweeney’s “Helluva Heart”; and “Minefield,” on Travis Meadows’s album Killin’ Uncle Buzzy. And now you can hear more of her songwriting on Lindsey Harding’s album Sound of My Heart (including the title track)!

Born in Shreveport, LA, the son of an part-time itinerant Church of Christ preacher and cloistered songwriter. BrownRandy bought a $10 guitar on credit at the tender age of 12 and started writing songs at the age of 14. After moving from the big city of Dallas to the sleepy town of Mineola,TX in 1974 he took whatever musical jobs he could get playing in various country bar bands for 15 years or so. BrownRandy spent 11 years as a solo singer/songwriter winning a number of songwriting awards as well as recordin 2 solo CDs (Dream Big in 2007 and But Wait, There’s More… In 2013).

Andrew and Kate Kirby, are a light acoustic duo with fresh and light, original melodies and recognizable tunes about life experiences. Their folk rock sound is heavily influenced by classic rock, yet their close vocal harmonies and stringed instruments are true Americana.
